Hello Friends and welcome to
The Scrappin Roots Blog Hop!
I'm so glad you stopped by.

If you are like me your love for papercrafting began with scrapbooking. And I don't know about you but I have REALLY let it go for quicker and more instant gratification crafts, mostly card making. I have really been wanting to get back to my "roots" and do more scrapbooking. I want to preserve the memories of my children and their childhood while they are still (somewhat) fresh in my mind. One of my goals (I don't like to call them resolutions, too  much pressure, lol) for 2011 is to do more layouts and scrapbooking. Since I figured I am not the only one who needs a swift kick in the scrapbooking butt I decided to host my very first blog hop and to focus it on layouts.
I'm so excited for this hop. We have an amazing line up of talented ladies that are super excited to share with you their projects both past (this ought to be fun) and present.

For my layout I chose to do a "Back to school" theme. I didn't include the pictures because my printer needs color ink. Don't you just hate that? Grr. LOL Anyway, here is my layout:

The page on the left is dedicated to my daughter and the page on the left is dedicated to my son.
Ingredients:
Core'dinations cardstock for the green base as well as the orange photo mats. Recollections cardstock for all other cuts.
Cuts: School bus & Apple is from DoodleCharms. Scissors, glue and sentiment is from Simply Charmed. Magnifying glass is from Everyday Paper Dolls.

I LOVE how this turned out especially considering it's been almost 2yrs since my last layout (sounds like I'm at confession, lol).
I chose the colors Green & Orange because those are my kids' school colors. "Let's go Discovery School" Sorry, I had to do a little shout out for the best school ever! And of course all the school images that go along with it. The magnifying glass is the school's logo. :)

I also wanted to share with you some of my "early" work. I've only been papercrafting for about 4 yrs so this is not OLD but older.

The first layout is one of the first if not THE FIRST (I simply cannot remember) layouts I've ever done. The second layout is one of the first layouts I did with my Cricut. :) I love my Cricut and am so glad I have one. I don't know how I ever survived without it.

One more thing I wanted to share with you was a handy dandy tip:
Incorporate recycled products in your projects. For the Back to School layout I cut the scissor blades out of silver chip board included in a make-up kit we purchased around Christmastime. I also trimmed out some clear plastic from packaging and used it as the "glass" in the magnifying glass.
Oh wait. What's a blog hop without some blog candy?
Robyn from My Pink Stamper so generously donated her newest video Cricut Layouts Through the Year for my giveaway today.
To be eligible for this prize simply leave a comment telling me when you began papercrafting. You don't have to be a follower but I would love it if you were. I will draw a winner on Monday morning.

Don't forget to visit all the other ladies in our hop today. I promise you that their projects will not disappoint. You may even stumble upon some more delicious blog candy.
Thanks for hopping on by. Here's the full line up, if you get lost along the way come on back here for the list.

I started scrapping in 1998 when my daughter was just a baby. I started out with stuff I ordered through the mail - Precious Moments stuff. I didn't have extra money for die cuts so I made my own. Quite the difference between then and now!

Like you, I hope to get more of "my" layouts done and still make some to sell. I like getting crafty with other stuff too, but I have so much to catch up on!

I love your layouts!! I began scrapbooking when my now 9 year old son was born. I used to watch QVC and Creating Keepsakes and wanted to do what Lisa did on her Scrapbooking shows. I love this craft and love preserving memories for my children. I looked at my first scrapbook layout and now that I have my Cricut...definitely will be redoing some.

Have a blessed Saturday!

I started papercrafting about 8 years ago when I went to a friend's house who was having a Stampin Up party. We made 3 cards and I placed an order and was hooked. I've done about 2 albums and made many, many cards since then. Since I don't send a lot of cards but love to create I wanted to find other things to create. Now I'm making 12 x 12 shadow box pictures using my Cricut (which I just got in September and LOVE) and hope to start going to craft shows to sell them in the Spring. I love making them and only have so many walls in my house! lol

My friend got me into scrapbooking after my son was born. He was in the NICU and she came to my house to head to the hospital and after the visit (since we were only allowed to stay a certain amount of time) we went back and scrapbooked. Ever since than I am hooked. But unfortunately I do more projects than scrapbook layouts! :(

my niece is almost two and a half. I started scrapbooking pretty much the day she was born. She was born in september and it was my christmas gift goal to give my sister a scrapbook. I did the whole thing over 60 pages without a cricut. the following summer her fiance helped me purchase a cricut on ebay (because of him I'm now an ebay pro). I wonder how I did the scrapbook without the cricut and started her second scrapbook. I need to catch up but you can tell when I got the cricut. But my niece loves her first scrapbook and looks at it often calling it "Ammy's book"

What wonderful layouts! Just one thing about adding recycled things to your layouts--if you want them to last for generations, you need to be concerned about the acid level in whatever you use. There are sprays that will supposedly make your recycled items archivally safe, but they are pricey and who knows if they really work? I mean, who's lived that long? Just a thought. I started scrapbooking way back in the dark ages when a scrapbook was a looseleaf book, with leatherette covers (that helpfully said *scrapbook*) and pages held together with string...I've seen it all---going to Creative Memories parties and buying *cool* paper and stickers...through edge-cutting scissors....into Page protectors and three-dimensional embellishments and punches! I've been a follow for a while--I love coming here to poke around and enjoy your creativety. You can find me art ksjennings at gmail dot com and/or http://karelj.blogspot.com

Super cute lay outs! I did my first scrapbook page when I was 17 but wasn't really into it so I didn't end up scrapping again til I had my first child and then I Only scrapped a page or 2 a year. Then Last year at Christmas time I saw my first Cricut expression at Walmart and just had to have it but after I saw the price I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford it for a while. My Father in-law was with me when this happened and after seeing how disappointed I was about not getting it went back and bought it for me for Christmas. So I've now had 1 super full year of crafting! :)

I guess I started when I was 4, old enough to start school of the arts...finished all of their classes and went to private tutor for 5 years. I have always been working and creating with paper, I cannot remember when I didn't. When I was younger (8??) I would cut the words and letters apart from newpaper and ads then glue them down to make my own page layouts LOL
My entire life I have been involved with some type of paper, including working in advertising. LOL I still have (and it works) an original waxer that was used to do layouts, it reminds me of days before computers and everything digital, when it all had to be hand placed, then shot with a camera (with film!!)

Super cute layout! I started scrapbooking back in 1999!!!

All of your layouts are adorable, as are your kiddos! I have only done a couple of layouts in my crafting career because I didn't really get into it until my son was grown and married. I started cardmaking, altered art and other crafts many years ago though so I have been into paper arts for quite some time.

I started scrapbooking almost 20 years ago, but after we moved I quit and just picked it up again last August when I bought a Cricut. I'm having a blast, but I don't know if I'll ever get caught up! At least I know what I'll be doing if/when I get around to retiring!

I started papercrafting at about 8 months, with a collage of torn magazine pages, formula and baby slobber. I have now advanced, 57 years later, to torn magazine pages, multi-media, and acrylic paints. LOL!

My scrapping roots go back a long way. My 6 kids are all grown now but love the books I made for them. One year that was all we could give them for Christmas but they still talk about their books and how much they mean.
Now I stick to making cards and that keeps me pretty busy.

I've been making cards for a few years but never done a scrapbook. I want to but I just don't know where to start. My husband got me an Imagine for Christmas so maybe that will give the push I need. I've lived in West Africa for the last decade and a half and have thousands of pictures in boxes and on computer. I'm also new to the whole world of blogs. Very interesting.

I started scrapbooking in 08 and have loved it ever since. I became an addict!!! I started getting into other crafts and I love them too but have strayed away from making layouts also. I told myself this year I will make more layouts and complete albums which was my first "love" to begin with.

I started scrapbooking around 1985- my son was 5 yrs old. I did all his baby pictures with very little to work with, then I was involved with stampin'up. Actually I remember embossing with a light bulb... I stayed with SU for a few years but it wasnt to popular in the NE. Idid earn alot of stamp set and learned by trial and error. Afew year went by without scrapbooking because I was card making. My son was in Scouts so I started a scrapbook for him. Back then there was little around with anything that was scout related or wilderness related. I hooked up with Creative memories and learned their techniques and eventually found camping stickers (YAY). When my son was 18 he had made it to Life Scout and I completed his album. Its about 5 inches thick...his scout years reflecs how I grew with products as they became available around here... Its a great book, one he will treasure as his son is 7 and in scouts...thank God we have the cricut, Im scrap booking both my grandchildrens books, aboy and a girl. My grandsons on his 2nd book...lol

Cute layouts and little ones! I started scrapping when I was in highschool and that was in the 90s. I got a Creative Memories scrapbook in about 2000 but didn't know what to do with it and had never heard of any of the stuff! Then I had friends who were into Stampin Up! and it all launched from there. I the paper, the stamp spots, and the markers along with several stamps, but wanted to get into scrapbooking. So discovered Michaels and Creative Memories and then the internet, JoAnn's and blogging. I am on a design team for http://ifitsgroovy.blogspot.com and I have my own blog too. http://timelesslegacydesigns.blgospot.com. I am now starting a scrapbooking group at my home through church and I will be sharing what I know with those gals! Whew! I have been collecting tools, Cricuts, and all kinds of this and that!
